Historic Cape May has welcomed beachgoers to its 2.5 miles of Atlantic Ocean coastline for generations. Many a walk, vacation, and celebration have taken place on its shoreline. 

Cape May City beaches are family-friendly, and many accesses offer concessions and public restrooms.

Cape May City's beaches are open year-round, and guarded in the summer for your enjoyment, barring any inclement or unsafe conditions. Beach tags are required for beach access in the summer, and are available from kiosks or attendants at any access point. Tags are required for beachgoers 12 and up from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day during guarded hours.

Steger's offers chairs and umbrellas for rent at 11 different beach locations, from Trenton Avenue to Cove Beach. The main Cape May Beach Patrol Station is located at 238 Beach Avenue.

Cape May Point offers visitors a more quiet and laid-back beach experience. Cape May Point's beaches start at the State Park, located at Lighthouse Avenue, and extend to the Alexander Avenue Jetty. 

Cape May Point Beaches are protected by the Cape May Point Beach Patrol, and stands are usually staffed from the middle of June to the beginning of September. Cape May Point requires beach tags from the third Saturday in June through Labor Day. Beach tags are only good at Cape May Point beaches. Daily, Weekly, and Seasonal tags are sold by the Beach Taggers at each entrance. Children under the age of 12 are free.

Lower Township beaches are located on the area's western side, running the length of Delaware Bay. These areas include North Cape May, Villas, Cape May Beach, and Sunset Beach. 

These beaches are free to access and do not require any beach tags. These beaches are open to the public year-round. However, there is no beach patrol, so these beaches are not guarded at any time during the year.  Please be careful and don't swim alone. 

Sunset Beach is the most famous of these beaches. Located at the end of Sunset Boulevard, many flock here to see the sun set behind the wreck of the USS Atlantus or to search for Cape May Diamonds.

Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area is run by the New Jersey's Fish and Wildlife’s Bureau of Land Management,

These beaches are free to access and do not require any beach tags. These beaches are open to the public year-round. However, there is no beach patrol, so these beaches are not guarded at any time during the year.  Please be careful and don't swim alone.
